2019 In Review: Tech Nova GH
Highlights, News, and Changes
It’s almost the end of 2019 and I thought I’d just give you a brief overview of my tech news platform, Tech Nova GH and plans for 2020.
So let’s go started.
Growing Our Numbers
This year, we beat our 2018 unique visitor numbers by the mid-year. In 2018, we had 37,000+ unique visitors.
In 2019, we currently at 58,000+ total unique visitors and have averaged about 3000–4000+ unique visitors every month.
Most of our unique visitors came from organic searches (search engines). We hardly advertised or boosted articles on social media but still managed to double our 2018 visitor numbers.
This year, we surprisingly grew our newsletter subscribers. We currently have 220+ email subscribers for our bi-weekly newsletter. We really appreciate the sign-ups and we’ll try to keep it going next year. (If you want to sign up, here’s the link: https://t.co/DmX3NUKy4z?amp=1)
Highlights of 2019
This year, we collaborated with Briter Bridges to help out their visual map for Ghana’s tech ecosystem. Tech Nova actually started collecting data on startups in Ghana late last year. We were happy to collaborate and share our data with the Briter Bridges to create a holistic map.
We also partnered with the Tech In Ghana conference for media coverage as well as leading one of their breakout session on Public Relations for tech companies.
We also partnered with the upcoming Ghana Tech Summit for media coverage. We’re always happy to partner with great events and brands for technology coverage in Ghana.
Latest News
I already announced it but if you haven’t caught up yet, here’s the latest update: In 2020, Tech Nova will be part of the Labari Media Group, a collective of online content brands in Ghana.
I believe collaboration is key and I’m happy to work with some great writers to help push this new initiative and produce some awesome content next year.
Change To The Business Model
In the beginning, Tech Nova was focused on purely content. Aside from the occasional ads, we didn’t focus on the revenue or money-making side.
Now two years ago, we want focus on monetization which will help scale Tech Nova to reach more audiences and produce richer content.
Next year, we’ll be introducing a subscription model. But don’t worry, you will still be able to access the site and read most of the news stories that happen in Ghana. There will be specific content like long-form articles and research pieces that will require a sign-up and payment of a small fee to access.
It will be experimental to see how far it goes and it will definitely be affordable for the local reader.
2020 Plans
Apart from the new subscription model, we also have different ideas on how to incorporate more media like podcasts and videos.
Also, you might see some cosmetic changes to the site going forward next year.
As an editor, I’m on the lookout for tech writers who want come onboard and help cover the Ghanaian Tech Ecosystem. If you‘re interested. hit me up on joseph@technovagh.com
And that’s it. It’s been a fun and busy 2019. We can’t wait to see what 2020 offers.
