Five years ago, we flipped the “go live” switch for our tech publication, Tech Nova GH.

Tech Nova debuted as an online news platform covering technology in Ghana. Since 2017, we’ve been tinkering and updating our news coverage to be more in-depth, covering both Ghana and other African countries.

As we celebrate our 5th anniversary, we want to take a small journey down memory lane on how we started and where we hope to go in the next couple of years.

Origins: Tech Nova 1.0

On April 1st, 2017, we launched the first version of Tech Nova.

We wrote about all tech-related stories from the fastest WiFi in Cafes in Accra to all the latest gadget news including our first review of the Samsung Galaxy S8.

As the site grew, we started to create more narratives and coverage of the growing technology ecosystem in Ghana and put a spotlight on how the tech scene is making an impact in Ghana.

Tech Nova 2.0

In 2018, we made a couple of updates. We changed to our v.1 logo to a cleaner one and introduced a bi-weekly newsletter for email subscribers.

We also started to switch our focus to cover more startups and entrepreneurs in Ghana.

Tech Nova 2.1

That same year, we updated to a brand new website design that featured a grid design in the hero section for easier access to articles.

Tech Nova 3.0

In 2020, we made some new changes. We launched a more simple and refined logo and also a brand new cleaner website.

We also started to dive deeper into the Ghana tech ecosystem by writing more on product launches by local startups and covering more news stories in Africa.

Tech Nova 3.1

In 2021, we updated our website design (again). The design featured a new user interface and dark mode. The new design was to highlight different sections that we cover on Tech Nova including African news, entertainment and our brand new “Guides” feature.

We continued to focus more on local and African startup news and what’s going on with the local tech ecosystem as well as cover more government tech-related policy.

Numbers Over The Years

For 5 years, we’ve been steadily growing and increasing our readership. We don’t spend much on advertising but instead focus on social media, word of mouth, and internal networks to spread the word about Tech Nova.

Overall, here’s how we’ve done numbers-wise over the last 5 years:

  • Number of Articles Published Till Date: 1400+
  • Average Monthly Unique Visitors: 4K — 5K+
  • Total Unique Visitors Till Date: 200K+
  • Average Page Views: 6K — 7K+
  • Newsletter Subscribers: 400+

What’s Next: Tech Nova 4.0

We’re officially launching Tech Nova 4.0 as part of our 5th year anniversary. With Tech Nova 4.0, we’re looking at a couple of new things including:

  • New Logo
  • Job Board (Beta Testing)
  • Nova Lab (Data Projects)
  • Subscription To “Premium” Articles

Nova Labs

We’ve been playing around with data for a while. But we finally decided that we want to place a bit more emphasis on it.

We’re putting out two data projects: Ghana Movie Database and Ghana Tech Ecosystem.

We recently introduced our new “Entertainment” section where we cover more entertainment items. To kick-off, we wanted to cover the Ghana movie industry by trying to catalog past and present movies.

Our second product is cataloging the Ghana startup ecosystem which includes funding news and data about founders and other details.

We’ll be pushing more data projects in the future.

And that’s it! That’s how far we’ve come. It’s been an interesting and fascinating journey so far

Thanks to all our readers and contributors for 5 years of growth!
