Using Ghost To Power The “UnOrdinary” website

Usually, when I create a new content website, I fall back Wordpress to start things off.

I’m launching a new brand content website called “UnOrdinary” for Labari Media and was thinking of falling back to the usually Wordpress platform.

This time, however, I decided to try a new content management site called “Ghost”.

What’s Ghost?

Ghost is a platform for creating an online blog or publication. Similar to Wordpress, you can run a blog or online publication on it.

Ghost gives you the option to run your site on your local server but I needed something which was more automated. Thankfully, Ghost has the option to host your site on their infrastructure so it was a no brainer to use that.

Why Switch To Ghost?

What solidified the move was the fact that Ghost has a subscription/membership option. Let’s face it, running ads on your website is no guarantee to make money. Having a service where you could easily activate and allow readers to subscribe to your content makes it a great option.

Plus, I LOVE how clean the user interface is 😍. Great use of white space and the editor is so clean.

Clean UI FTW

Plugins = Integrations

I love that there is an option to integrate services like Google Adsense and MailChimp. It makes me less anxious about not having Wordpress-Plugins.

Oh, and you also get the option of purchasing themes so don’t worry about the look of your website being “plain”.

Paying $30 a month does look like a bit much but you do get automatic SSL, plus the membership option for readers is included. Seems like good value given what you get from it.

So that’s the new path that I’m taking with Ghost. The new “UnOrdinary” site launches in February and I’m very excited to see what content we push in the coming months.
