Less Is More: Working On Data and User Experience in Second Half of 2024

We’re heading into the second half of the 2024 and it’s been a crazy ride so far.

Here are some stuff I’m focused on going into the second half of the year:

Less Feature Writing, More Focus on Data

I’ve been working on publishing more data insights on Tech Labari. I feel like there’s a gap in data reporting especially in Ghana an Africa as a whole so it will be good to create more data stories which is more accessible.

Going forward, expect to see more data stories and less feature writing on Tech Labari.

Tech Ecosystem Database (Beta)

New Project Preview

A couple of years ago, I started a small project to create a database of tech companies and startups in Ghana. The list has so grown to about 250+ companies and I started working on other ecosystems as well.

The project was started on Airtable but I’ve been working on building a more public interface for external users to check it out.

The project will be launched in a beta version.

Tech Ecosystem (Pro)

If the project is successful, we’ll update the project to a “Pro” version.

What does this mean? It means that there will be a “paid” version of the product where pro users will get more details on companies in the database including funding data and other details.

User Experience and Research

I’ll be honest: I haven’t designed in a while. At the beginning of this year, I started working on some new design concepts but I haven’t really been consistent. But I think I want to shift back more in UX and research as there are still gaps in the market especially when it comes to user testing and research.

My startup Userhub Africa is looking for more clients and customers to offer our services so my focus will be more shifted in that area.

Less Social Media

Over the years, I can’t help but notice how much social media platforms attempt to increase engagements on their platforms without thinking about the side effects. From Instagram to X (formerly Twitter), these platforms are just trying to hard to keep you logged in as long as possible.

Unfortunately, the human brain loves all the dopamine from these social platforms.

With this in mind, I’ve decided that I need a LONG break.

Social media has been my engine for news updates and what happens in the world. But for the sake of my mental sanity and exhaustion trying to work on the algorithm, I decided to just step back and “reset” my brain.

The X platform will be the main culprit. I still have to manage the Tech Labari account from time to time, but my main account will definitely be on “pause”.

I already moved away from Instagram, even deleting it from my phone.

So in the future, I will be spending a little less time on social media.

And there’s it!

The second half of the year is going to be a lot (especially externally). The US elections is scheduled to take place in November and Ghana will be having its own elections in December.

So it’s going be busy busy busy. Let’s all take care and stay safe. Cheers
