Miss Fleets? Maybe Twitter Should Have “Auto Delete” Tweets

Forget Fleets, Let’s have “Auto Delete”

Hey. Remember Twitter’s “Fleets”?

Well, in case you don’t, Fleets were basically Twitter’s “Stories” where users could look at someone’s post (tweets, videos/pictures) and it would be gone in 24 hours. So basically, think Instagram Stories or Snaps…but for Twitter.

Unfortunately, Fleets didn’t last long and Twitter shut down the feature not long after.

They say being away makes the heart grow fonder because there is a section of Twitter users who actually miss Fleets.

It doesn’t really look like Fleets will be coming back anytime soon but I wondered if there was some way where users could get that “Fleet” experience back and then someone gave me an idea….

“Auto-Deleting Tweets”.

It’s a simple concept: Sending tweets that auto delete in 24 hours. Tweets can include pictures and videos.

The Design Concept

So I took the afternoon to design a very simple user interface for the auto delete feature.

Using a “clock” icon for the auto delete alongside the other features like media upload and polls feature, users can select this new feature to set a timer to auto delete a tweet.

The way the flow would work, you just tweet what you want to tweet, select the auto delete timer and send out the tweet.

But the better flow would be to set the timer first, then send out the tweet.

So when you’re sending out a tweet, you’re given a notification that your tweet will auto delete and you have to confirm.

And when you send out the tweet, there’s a notifier that your tweet will auto delete and anyone can see it.

And here’s how it looks:

And that’s my Twitter Auto Delete feature. It was fun to quickly design this out. Maybe one day, Twitter will use this 😬
