Poem: Open Letter To The Person Who Will Eventually Love Me

To the person who will eventually love me
I am not like the others
I don’t conform to natural rules laid down by my ancestors
My mind runs freely
Curious of the ways the world works
About how the earth was birthed
How rivers and oceans create life
I do not wear my heart on my sleeves
I keep it in a locked box
Hidden away from the harlots and thieves of joy and misery
You have to forgive me when my dark clouds of despair
rain down and I have to seek shelter
You will have to play a game of seek
Trying to help me find myself
and the love that I lost along the way
Trying to find the patchwork of emotions
that I shed living this life in isolation
Will you run away like the others?
Or will you put your lips on mine
And pull me from the edge of abyss
Knowing there is a chance you might fall in with me
But also knowing that you will be loved to death
But I can’t promise I won’t walk back to the edge to meet my fate
But I promise
I will give love a chance
Again
