A new redesign for the Ghana Pay app to make more user friendly

In 2022, the Bank of Ghana and the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement System (GhIPSS) released an app called “GhanaPay”.

The app is similar to Zelle which was launched in the US for consumers to use their banking services by sending money to family and friends.

Zelle app

The GhanaPay app has similar features and allows users to send money to other bank accounts, to mobile money accounts and make QR payments.

The app itself in its current condition.…is not great to look at.

Current UI design of Ghana Pay app

There are several problems with this UI design. It’s not consistent with design, the menu is hiding most of the services and…. it’s basically all over the place.

So I present a quick redesign of the current app

The Redesign

The redesign was simple. The aim is to make the app better visually and help users get the best out of the app. Some changes include:

  • Putting in a navigation menu at the bottom of the screen
  • Designing a better home screen with more consistent icons

There’s a button which allows users to hide their wallet balance like in its current version. In the new design, there is a “favorite section” which allows users to have their favorite services on the homepage. There’s a “Edit Favorites” to customise the section.

New redesigned home screen

The redesign gives the Ghana Pay services get its own section where users can find all the services.

New GhanaPay Services section

Another new section is “Transactions” where the user can see all their transactions that they’ve made as well as see “Pending Transactions” including scheduled payments.

Transactions section

And that’s what the new design looks like. It was just a “quick fix” but there’s way more work to be done when it comes to onboarding, security and more.

But if the UI for the app looks good, consistent and works well, the app is half way to being more user friendly.
